Welcome to Your Weekly News Brief!
Happy Bloomin' Friday!
Just three weeks until POP Week! Normally, this is my full-speed, no-time-to-reflect season. But two heartwarming articles made me pause.
The first came from influencer Katy Mann of IndyWithKids, who beautifully chronicled what it has meant for her and her family to road-trip from Indianapolis to our Chicago Toy & Game Fair for 16 years. Every year, attendees share touching stories with me, and now we even have second-generation families joining us—but nothing compares to Katy’s heartfelt account. Thank you, Katy!
IndyWithKids’ Katy Mann – A Family Tradition of Play: My 16 Years at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair
The second was written by gifted journalist Peter Budig, whom I met at the Nuremberg Toy Fair last January thanks to Spielwarenmesse’s Kyra Berger. Peter’s portrait wove together literary references, my childhood memories, and insights into why I do what I do—it is my story. Thank you, Peter!
Mary Couzin – The Networker
I feel deeply grateful on so many levels to these writers for their meaningful articles. NONE of this would have happened without the support of so many of you over decades. Thank you!

IndywithKids' Katy Mann - A Family Tradition of Play
My 16 Years at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair
For more than 20 years, I’ve been a digital storyteller, sharing moments, memories, and family fun across many platforms. For the past 16 years, I’ve built a community of families who trust me to help them create the perpetual “best day ever” for their children. Through my work as the founder of Indy with Kids, as a published author of two family travel books, and as a weekly television contributor highlighting experiences, destinations, and, of course, the best toys and games for families, I’ve spent my career exploring how play connects us.
That’s what led me 16 years ago to my first visit to the Chicago Toy & Game Fair. Back then, I was a new mom with an infant in tow, curious to see what the fair was all about. What I found was a wonderland of creativity and imagination that has become one of my favorite events of the year. I’ve returned to CHITAG many years, first pushing a stroller through the aisles, then chasing toddlers, and now exploring with four kids who are old enough to run ahead, ask their own questions, and fully dive into the world of play. Lisa Wuennermann: We’re not Simply Selling Products; We’re Encouraging Interaction, Creating Memories, and Building Self-Esteem
Hi Lisa! Thank you for taking time to answer a few questions. Let’s start with talking about what you do in our industry?
I partner with small- and mid-size toy, game, and entertainment companies to evaluate ideas, clarify strategy and ensure their marketing efforts are both effective and efficient. Every client is different. With some clients, I work as a fractional marketing leader; with others, as a project-based strategist; and with smaller clients, as a trusted advisor to move their business forward.
What is it about the Toy and Game Industry that you love?
I love the joy this industry brings to all ages. We’re not simply selling a product; we’re encouraging interaction, creating memories, and building self-esteem.
What was your favorite project to date?
I’m known for creating brand partnerships that deliver joy and measurable results. That said, I wanted to work with Southwest Airlines because of its playful brand personality and reputation for hospitality. This year, that dream came true when I pitched, negotiated and executed a promotional partnership between my client, The Op Games and Southwest Airlines for the launch of the 10 Days in the USA game at Target. We ran a sweepstakes on the game package at Target with Southwest gift cards as prizes. READ MORE
