Pokémon Trainer Expert
Gameplay
Another game has entered the Pokémon universe: Trainer Expert. A trivia game of sorts that tests your knowledge of all the different Pokémon, Trainer Expert is a single- or multi-player interactive game that’s both easy to set up and to play. All you need is the board, the colored rings, and the Game Master—you don’t even need another person to play.
Depending on how well you think you know your Pokémon, choose either the beginner side of the board or the expert side of the board. The beginner side will give you a photo of every Pokémon, their name, their type, and their Kanto region. The expert side of the board will only supply you with a photo of the Pokémon and their name—all 151 of them. When you’re ready to go, place the Game Master in the center of the board and turn it on.
The Game Master will guide you through the game and keep track of the score. First, it’ll run through the instructions with you before prompting you to pick a color. You can opt for a solo game and just press one color or up to four players can join, each selecting a color and the corresponding-colored ring. Once everyone is set, press the button on the Poké Ball, and the Game Master will launch into the game.
The Game Master selects a Pokémon and begins giving clues that hint at which Pokémon it’s thinking of. For example: “This Pokémon has spots” or “This Pokémon is a poison type” or “Its name begins with the letter ‘V’.” If at any point you think you know which Pokémon it is, press your color and place your ring over the Pokémon.
The fewer clues it takes you to guess, the more points you earn: if it takes you one clue to identify the Pokémon, you’ll earn 10 points. But if it takes you 9 clues, you’ll only score 1 point. The Game Master will keep track of all the scoring, though—don’t worry. Once all players have guessed or all clues have been given, the Game Master will reveal the Pokémon. If you answered correctly, press your color. If nobody guessed correctly, press the Poké Ball’s button.
The game continues until someone reaches 30 points!
