Global Tariffs: Updates from The Toy Association

by The Toy Association | 08 Apr 2025

General

The Toy Association has quickly responded to sweeping reciprocal tariffs announced by the Trump Administration April 2:

  • Toy Association webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, to provide members with guidance and updates on the evolving situation. Registration for this members-only webinar is now open.

  • The Toy Association is engaged in continuous media outreach to spread awareness about the impact of tariffs on the industry. To date, President & CEO Greg Ahearn has been interviewed by The New York TimesCNNCNBC, and several other major media outlets.

  • Several Member Alerts have been sent to the full Toy Association membership over the past week containing important information about the announced tariffs, including rates, effective dates, and more; Toy Association members are encouraged to monitor their inboxes for these emails.

  • The Toy Association continues to lead the way on the reciprocal tariff agenda and has brought together the vast majority of national toy associations from around the world (representing toy sectors in China, Vietnam, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, the EU, France, Germany, and many others) to advocate for lowering trade barriers and tariffs on toys around the world. We believe we are the only industry to advocate for minimal to no tariffs across the board. The global tariff-free toy statement can be read here.

  • CALL TO ACTION – Please join the tariff conversation on social media by posting the following:

Led by the U.S. Toy Association, the vast majority of global toy associations have come together to advocate for 0% reciprocal tariffs around the world, to ensure that safe, affordable, and high-quality toys remain accessible to all children. We are proud to be a part of this critical and unique global movement urging the Administration and governments around the world to #KeepToysTariffFree. Please share this message broadly!

  • The Toy Association has written a public statement and is preparing resources so that members may reach out to the Administration and other elected officials to advocate for a tariff exemption for toys. Details on these resources will be shared during next Tuesday’s webinar.

The above list of activities and resources is not comprehensive; it represents a small sampling of The Toy Association’s ongoing work to advocate for minimal to zero tariffs on toys. Members will be kept informed of developments. Questions may be directed to The Toy Association’s Chief Policy Officer Kathrin Belliveau, kbelliveau@toyassociation.org.
