Welcome to Your Weekly News Brief!
Happy Bloomin’ Friday!
This week’s Bloom Report has me thinking about the people behind the power of play—and how much of themselves they put into what they create.
We sadly lost Peter Cullen this week, the legendary voice of Optimus Prime. Before his original Transformers audition in 1984, Peter’s older brother Larry, a Marine veteran, gave him advice about portraying a hero: “If you’re going to be a hero, be a real hero. Be strong enough to be gentle. Be compassionate, understanding, and be true.” Peter carried those words into Optimus Prime for more than four decades. We share his remarkable story and remember the man who gave one of the world’s most beloved toys its voice—and much of its heart.
At the other end of a creative journey is Fei Feng, one of our Young Inventor Challenge winners and creator of Orbio. Fei took an idea from a sketchbook to a real game while still in high school and is now at Carnegie Mellon, continuing to develop Orbio—and herself as a creator. Her mantra? “Lead with Joy.”
Two people at very different points in their journeys offer inspiring advice for creating and living.
Be strong enough to be gentle.
Lead with joy.

Fei Feng Talks Growing Orbio, Leading with Joy, Inspirations and More!

I love how supportive and open-minded the toy and game community is. People are genuinely curious about each other’s ideas and willing to share advice, feedback, and their own experiences. It feels like a welcoming industry where creativity is celebrated, and I’m constantly inspired by the people I meet.
What do you feel has been your greatest “win” so far in life? What was your biggest failure?
My greatest win has been taking an idea from a sketch all the way to a real product that people can actually play and own... READ MORE
Peter Cullen and the Voice That Helped Transform a Toy into an Icon
There are many people behind the toys and games we love—inventors, designers, engineers, marketers, executives and countless others whose names may or may not ever appear on the box. And sometimes someone comes along who gives a toy something that can't be molded from plastic.
A voice. A personality. A heart.
Peter Cullen did that for Optimus Prime. Cullen, the legendary voice actor who brought Optimus Prime to life beginning with the original Transformers animated series in 1984, passed away Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 85. His extraordinary career spanned six decades, but for generations of children and adults around the world, that unmistakable voice will forever belong to the leader of the Autobots. READ MORE
