Welcome to Your Weekly News Brief!

Happy Bloomin’ Friday!

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, honors resilience, and recognizes the many contributions Black Americans have made to our nation, culture, and economy. It is also a fitting time to celebrate innovators whose ideas, creativity, and determination have helped shape our world.

Our friend and colleague, James Howard, Executive Director of the Black Inventors Hall of Fame (BIHOF) Museum, will host the Black Inventors Hall of Fame Awards Gala on July 16. We were proud to honor James with the 2022 TAGIE Game Changer Award. He is one of the most impressive people I know—accomplished, humble, and generous.

This year’s Guest of Honor at the BIHOF is Lonnie Johnson. Best known as the inventor of the Super Soaker®, Lonnie's innovations extend far beyond toys and have had a profound impact on science, engineering, and innovation.

Among this year’s BIHOF inductees is Disney Imagineer Lanny Smoot, whose more than 100 patents have transformed immersive storytelling and entertainment. From advanced robotics to groundbreaking special effects, his innovations have redefined guest experiences around the world.
