The Game Authors' Guild (SAZ) is an interest group that represents the rights of game designers in public as well as vis-à-vis publishers and other users of works. It supports aspiring game designers and is committed to strengthening the cultural asset of games in society. (§ 2.1 of the Articles of Association)*)

The SAZ is a strong community with many benefits for its members. Founded in 1991, it currently represents over 600 members in Germany and abroad. Although the main field of activity is Germany, the SAZ is increasingly gaining an international character due to a large number of members from other countries. This is also evidenced by SAZ-Italia, which was founded in 2017, and SAZ-Nederlands since 2023.

The diverse fields of activity of the SAZ: Advising our members and promoting the exchange of experience is an important focus. If necessary, this also includes negotiations with publishers for fair contractual conditions. As co-organizer of the Game Designers Meeting in Göttingen, we support platforms that bring game designers and game publishers together. In politics, we are committed to fair framework conditions in the cultural sector as well as in copyright, tax and social security law and advise our members on these issues as well. In addition, we organize and support further training measures to professionalize our members.

Anyone who supports the goals of the SAZ can become a member. However, only those who have published at least one game or can present prototypes can become a full member with voting rights.
