Tiny Easel was created by Jennifer Nolley, artist, entrepreneur, and mom-of-three with a master’s in interior design. As someone with a passion for arts and crafts, she wanted to come up with new, innovative ways to share this love with her youngsters—without the mess that comes along with most combinations of children and art. After months of experimenting with different materials, she created Tiny Easel: an easy (and relatively mess-free!) way for kids to be creative.
Tiny Easel has a many different products, from watercolor books, coloring activities, and other crafting sets. They even have a Tiny Wooden Eggs set just in time for Easter—skip painting real eggs and paint wooden ones! When I met Jennifer at Toy Fair, she graciously gave me a Mini Art Kit to try out—specifically the New York City kit.
It comes in a small reusable bag that can definitely be re-packed and taken on the go. Inside, there’s a mini wooden easel, a 4x4 canvas with a Jennifer Nolley sketch, a 12-color paint set, a water brush, and a 10-page watercolor pad. It’s easy to set up, easy to clean up, and easy to pack up and bring with you! I tried out the New York City kit, but Jennifer also has a ton of other themed sets: a Taylor Swift “In-My-Artist-Era” kit, a Mini Unicorn kit, Mini Giraffe kit, Mini Rocket kit, Mini cupcake kit, Mini Dolphin kit, and a Mini Dino kit.
Their slogan might be “for little hands with big ideas,” but Tiny Easel sets are also great for teenagers and adults. Whether you want to host an at-home sip-and-paint with friends or want an easy, on-the-go activity to do at the beach or on a picnic, this set is perfect. They’re easy to slip in a tote bag and simple to work with.
Tiny Easel is perfect if it’s your first entrée into the world of watercolor painting. Getting a big, blank canvas and a set of watercolor paints can seem overwhelming (and expensive!) so if you’re just trying out a new hobby, Tiny Easel is the way to go. It also comes with a little book of blank sheets of watercolor paper, so if you’re feeling extra inspired after filling in Jennifer’s sketch, you can try your hand at starting from scratch!
