Welcome to Your Weekly News Brief!

Happy Toy Fair Weekend!
Toy Fair New York is officially underway — and the TOTY Awards are tonight! A quick reminder: the Fair opens one hour later on Saturday morning so those celebrating at the TOTYs can enjoy an extra hour of rest before hitting the show floor.
Like the Olympics, Toy Fair Season is a true test of mental and physical endurance. How many meetings, showroom visits, dinners, and late-night events can one person pack into just a few days? Pace yourself — it’s a marathon wrapped in a sprint!
On Monday evening, something special is happening. For the first time ever, our POP Pub event will merge with the legendary Inventor Night NY — bringing inventors, creators, executives, magicians, puzzlers, and industry friends together under one roof and the entire second floor of Connolly’s Pub on 45th— all in support of the Young Inventor Challenge®. Every ticket directly funds YIC programming. Can’t attend? You can still donate and help fuel the next generation of toy and game innovators. Special thanks to Eastar for their support on this event!
See you on the floor — and at the Pub!

David Norman Talks Stormin' Studios, Acquisitions and an Explosive Future with Gassy Gus
Hi David! Thank you for taking time to answer a few questions. Let’s start with talking about what you do in our industry. It seems to me you haven’t retired!
David: In fairness, I never said I was retiring this time. I just wanted to start a new business. As one of the more seasoned people starting something new, I’m inspired by legends in our business that I have worked with first hand like Bob Moog, Manny Stul, Michael Kohner, Gerry Crown, Adi Golad, and Jim Pressman—people who have proven that experience mixed with passion can be a competitive advantage.
So what’s behind the name Stormin’ Studios?
David: The idea started as a nod to my nickname, Stormin’ Norman. The problem is that when you say “Stormin’ Norman,” people often think of General Schwarzkopf or Storming the Normandy beaches—not exactly the vibe I wanted for a toy company. As we worked through the ideation, Stormin’ Studios really clicked. It captured the energy we want in our products, and the word “Studios” signals that these aren’t just games and toys—they’re brands with real marketing and storytelling behind them. It also supports our long-term vision of building multiple studios under one umbrella. READ MORE
Live From New York, It's Kanoodle's 20th Anniversary
Note from Mary: While at Spielwarenmesse, I caught up with Lisa Guili at the Learning Resources evening event. She shared exciting news: Educational Insights will livestream directly from their NYTF booth to launch the Kanoodle® 20th Anniversary Fan Edition.
Livestreaming from trade shows is quickly becoming a global trend. At the Beijing Toy Show, nearly every booth hosted live broadcasts, turning the traditional show floor into a dynamic, real-time media platform.
This year at the New York Toy Fair, Kanoodle fans will be getting exclusive access to the floor—virtually. Educational Insights, a Los Angeles-based toy and game company, will bring consumers inside its booth (#753) to launch their Kanoodle 20th Anniversary Fan Edition, becoming one of the first brands to livestream from the show, transforming this trade-only toy show into a worldwide, fan-powered product launch event. A Tribute to Tim Moodie
by Richard C. Levy
They say friends are the family we choose. Being chosen by Tim Moodie, who passed away last week, was a gift of my life, and though he is gone, the footprints he has left in my heart will never diminish.
Tim, a 40+ year industry veteran, and I co-invented and licensed twenty games, among them: The Wayne’s World VCR Board Game (Mattel), Chicken Soup for the Soul (Cardinal); Mental Floss (Pressman); Magnetic Poetry: The Game (Magnetic Poetry); and The Top 10 Game (USAopoly). While we had many more scars than medals, it was always “the joy of doing” for us.
Tim was a multi-hyphenated artist who excelled across myriad disciplines. He had golden hands for prototyping, a golden voice for dubbing our demo videos and a brilliant mind for gameplay. His soul and heart shone through every one of our projects. He was a kind and beautiful spirit. READ MORE
